40 days…

40 days… a pretty significant period of time in Bible terms. Consider…

  • Genesis 7:12  “And the rain was upon the earth 40 days and 40 nights…”
  • Genesis 8:6    “And it came to pass at the end of 40 days that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made…”
  • Exodus 24:18 “And Moses went into the midst of the cloud and went up into the mount, and Moses was in the mount 40 days and 40 nights…”
  • Exodus 34:28-29 “And Moses was there with the Lord 40 days and 40 nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water.  And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments…”
  • Deut. 10:10     “Now I had stayed on the mountain 40 days and nights, as I did the first time, and the Lord listened to me at this time also. It was not his will to destroy you.”
  • 1 Sam. 17:16    “For 40 days, twice a day, morning and evening, the Philistine giant strutted in front of the Israelite army…”
  • 1 Kings 19:8     “And Elijah arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat 40 days and 40 nights unto Horeb the mount of God…”
  • Jonah 3:4         “And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried and said, “Yet 40 days, and Ninevah shall be overturned…”
Matthew 4:1    “Then Jesus was led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted 40 days and 40 nights, he was afterward hungry…”

July 6 started my latest “40 day journey” of intentionally listening more intently to the Lord’s direction in my life.  It will be a combination of working on long-term YFC projects, personal projects, play, quiet, extra rest, exercise, card games, vacation days, reading… but mostly listening. Game on, Lord… I’m listening…
